| PG doctors in GMC not behaving well with patients, attendants | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: The post graduate doctors in Government Medical College (GMC) hospital Jammu have been accused of misbehaving with the patients and attendants while on duty. The PG doctors manage the emergency department of the GMC hospital day and night and have to face huge rush of patients round the clock. As the specialized doctors are only available during the day hours, the PG doctors manage the affairs on their own during night hours. At a time when the number of patients is increasing, the PG doctors are also under lot of pressure. Being stressed, they shout at patients and attendants to give vent to their anger. "While I was in GMC emergency unit on Wednesday night along with my friend, who fell ill, a female PG doctor shouted at me when I asked for some help," said Amit Sharma. "After sometime when the same doctor made a round in the room and checked patients, she didn't attend my friend who was lying in pain," he added. The PG doctors have to go for 36 to 72 hour duty in one go which sometimes takes toll on their patience. The GMC is also facing shortage of doctors which has increased the pressure on these PG doctors. "Yes, we are facing shortage of doctors but a PG doctor should behave properly with patients and attendants as they are doing service to the mankind. Whatever attitude problem these doctors are facing in personal lives, they shouldn't shout on patients," said a GMC official. He said that he will talk to doctors and advice them to behave properly with patients. Meanwhile, as the rush of patients increased after dengue suspected patients were admitted, the hospital administration has increased the manpower. "We have mobilized our resources and more doctors are looking after the rush of patients in the GMC," he added. |
