| Soz loyalists cozying up in Azad camp, DyCM staying away....? | | Political 'equlibrium' changing within Congress factions | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 19: Even as the just concluded 3 day whirlwind tour of Congress stalwart and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad remained confined to erstwhile Doda region in the fold of which he reached farthest end of some places, his visit has ruffled political feathers within the party for a conspicuous reason. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand who is considered to be staunchest loyalist of Azad became conspicuous by his absence in all the public functions nor was he seen in a small function at a Jammu hotel where all other Congressmen converged with an atypical sycophantic style and conduct as ever in any gathering having Azad as the main guest. This has fuelled speculation of an unexpected story, though nothing is impossible in the game of politics especially in a party like Congress where loyalties change overnight on account of multiple power centres. Sources said among others in the loyalists in Azad led faction of Congress, Sharma brothers -Madan Lal Sharma and Sham Lal Sharma considered to be political heavyweights who were hitherto seen thick with the Soz led camp were present in the function organised in Jammu. The presence of duo did not surprise many as they have been cosying up with Azad for some time now, elections being the prime motive in increasing proximity propelled from both ends. However, what raised many an eyebrows was the consistent absence of Tara Chand from functions and gatherings organised for Azad, sources said. Sources also said that with an eye on elections ahead, Azad has been trying to bring into the fold of his camp Sham Lal Sharma, a Minister in Omar led Government and Madan Lal Sharma MP, given the fact that they wield a strong hold on many constituencies and communities in Jammu region where Congress has larger stakes. It goes without saying that both the brothers until recently were inseparable part of the PCC chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz's camp. There is also not denying the fact that both the brothers are more aggressive politically and their role in run up to elections can be of help to the stalwarts under whose sterwardship election process would be carried on. This may only be a beginning to many such developments which Congress is in for coming days once the election momentum gains pace, sources said adding that it is also a strategy of one up manship apart from the move to gain political strength with power centres. |
