Sangarsh organizes RTI program at GCW Gandhinagar

Jammu, Nov 19: Sangarsh RTI Movement & CHRI in collaboration with Government College for Women Gandhinagar organized one day awareness cum debate program on Right to Information Act here in the college auditorium, the workshop was supported by FUR DIE FREIHEIT
Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college formally inaugurated the event, in her keynote speech Dr. Bakshi congratulated the Sangarsh RTI Movement, NSS Unit of the college led by Dr. Ashak Raza, Prof Shrotika Rajput, Prof Nazia Rasool and other NSS Volunteers for organizing the RTI Program for the students.
Dr. Bakshi asked the students to exercise their right to Know (RTI Act) judiciously to bring transparency in the administration as the same has been proved as a vital tool in the hands of common citizenry. Dewakar Sharma, Advocate while throwing light on the history of the transparency law informed the participants that RTI Act has overpowered the Official Secret Act which was to put a veil on every public document but after the enactment of RTI Act now every government record is open for public scrutiny.
Whereas, Balvinder Singh, Convener Sangarsh RTI Movement also asked the student community especially the girl students to come forward and file RTI applications on public related issues and feel the impact of this law. He said this law prompts the Public Authorities to remain vigilant and attentive to the people's grievances. Later, RTI Activist ,Raman Sharma, Founder Member of Sangarsh RTI Movement while giving away prizes to the winners of debate competition appreciated the presentation of the participating students and thanked the Principal and faculty members of the college for making the awareness program a successful event. In the RTI debate competition Sanam Khan bagged 1st Postion followed by Prabjot Kaur who stood 2nd and Sehrish Javed got third position. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Shrotika Rajput.
