Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: Criticizing the state government for not holding civic elections, MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta observed that whole approach of the coalition leaders appears to be tricky and making a mockery of the basic democracies.
Commenting upon the reports that the central grants for urban developments are being deducted but for in the absence of elected civic bodies. It is a sad situation for which the ruling leaders owe an explanation that why these elections were not held.
He recalled that the elections to the Municipal bodies were due in April 2010. Since then within the Assembly and outside many times it was promised that civic elections would be held "soon" but that has not been honored even after expiry of about four years now.
He also pointed out that it was promised by the Congress and some others to empower the basic democracies in the State as per the 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Indian Constitution would be incorporated in the State Laws but so far nothing practical has been done. This exposes the inner of the ruling clan.
