Omar's pot calling PDP's kettle black
11/20/2013 12:21:34 AM
There is a small difference between seeing, watching, observing and experiencing. And whenever politicians, especially those belonging to the ruling party, see something it should be treated as nothing less than "day dreaming. "On the basis of this analogy one can safely say that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's claim that there is a nexus between senior BJP leaders in the Centre and the PDP leadership is the outcome of either day dreaming or wishful thinking. Those who are well aware of the history of turns and twists in the 75-year long history of National Conference have no hesitation in dubbing the NC as the party of opportunists. The party assumed the name of National Conference, after shedding the Muslim Conference attire in 1938,to retain its secular character. But over the years its faith in secular traditions depended on which side its bread could be buttered. And no wonder that in the interest of retaining power the National Conference had no hesitation in joining hands with the BJP led NDA Government in the centre.Inorder to cement the new found relationship Omar Abdullah agreed to get inducted in the Council of Ministers headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee. It was between 2000 and 2001 that the NC not only supported the BJP led Government in the Centre but became part of it.And the same regional party had no qualms for joining hands with the Congress and since 2009 it has been sharing power with the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir and the party President,Dr Farooq Abdullah,is a member of the cabinet headed by Manmohan Singh.
But Omar Abdullah seems to have forgotten this development alongwith the years of love-hate relations between the National Conference and the Congress.when he sees he PDP patron,Mufti Sayeed,in league with the top BJP leaders, including Narendra Modi. Omar Abdullah has alleged that there is a "hidden contact" between the PDP patron Mufti Sayeed and the BJP's Prime-Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi "to seek power." He said "besides deceiving the people with its duplicity, to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds has been the trait of the PDP." Omar has said adding that secret meetings of Mufti Sayeed with the close associates of Lal Krishan Advani and his close contact with Narendra Modi have come to the fore, thus exposing the ideology of the PDP.Omar said PDP wants "to sail in two boats to seek power but their boat will sink due to the weight of its own falsehood." He said the ruling National Conference's association with the UPA led by Congress is "firm and will continue in future."The Chief Minister has claimed that the secret nexus between BJP, PDP and Panthers Party was also exposed earlier when they forged alliance during various elections to the Legislative Council in the State. On does wishes to know what actually had provoked or motivated Omar to allege that the Muftis have a secret link with the BJP stalwarts. Two factors seem to have prompted Omar to indulge in day dreaming. Firstly, Omar has started getting unnerved over the possible defeat of the National Conference in the next Assembly election on account of growing influence of the PDP on voters in all the three regions of the state. Omar is also aware that people are annoyed with the poor performance of the Government led by him and this may help the PDP to gain some advantage. In order to prevent the PDP from winning an absolute majority in the 87-member Assembly Omar has started talking loudly about what he sees the nexus between the Muftis and the BJP.And the PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti has already stated that the PDP will have no link with the BJP if Narendra Modi was installed as the Prime Minister. Secondly, Omar Abdullah is yet unsure about the stand the Congress will take vis-à-vis the National Conference after the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections. He, therefore, wants to choke all the channels that may reopen alliance between the PDP and the Congress. And as a tactful politician Omar knows that by dubbing the PDP leadership as pro-BJP and pro-Modi he would be able to keep the doors for NC-Congress alliance open. And whatever Omar has allged about the Muftis is being treated as part of the anti-PDP campaign launched by Omar.
