| While code of conduct is in place, MLAs visit Secretariat | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 10: Few opposition and Government Members of Legislative Assembly are seen inside rooms of bureaucrats in Civil Secretariat even after the model code of conduct is in place. After the elections were announced these MLAs made it a routine affair to visit the officers in the Secretariat in the absence of Ministers as the Government work during model code of conduct goes slow. Sources in Civil Secretariat said that three to four MLAs regularly pay visit to top bureaucrats and few officers and try to get their work done despite the fact that code of conduct is in place. "The work is aimed at providing some benefit to the workers of their parties who can help them, not only in Lok Sabha elections but also in Assembly elections," sources added. The Lok Sabha elections are considered to be semi finals ahead of the crucial Assembly elections and every party is trying hard to get voters on their side. As already the Chief Electoral Office ordered cancellation of transfers, but the work behind curtains in Civil Secretariat is going unabated and there is no body to stop them. These MLAs are part of this act and are regularly visiting the Civil Secretariat to get their work done. Mostly Ministers including the Chief Minister have preferred to stay away from Civil Secretariat as not much business could be done during these days. But at this point of time why these MLAs are reaching Secretariat everyday and what are they doing there must be looked into. The CEO and Chief Minister must make it clear to officials that any work done which is aimed at providing any benefit to political workers must not be done in the Civil Secretariat and this could be seen as violation of model code of conduct. |
