JAMMU, Mar 10: In a glaring example of injustice with Jammu Division, the Government today extended winter vacations in Kashmir Division by two more days while the winter zones of Jammu Division presently going through severe cold has once again been ignored.
The Government decision to extend the vacations by two days comes in wake of fresh snowfall in Srinagar city and its adjoining areas, but the same benefit was denied in winter zones falling in Jammu Division like Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Reasi Districts where the schools open nearly a week ago and many areas like Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan, Machail, Saroor, Bhunzwah, Nagsini, Bharat, Dessa, Gandoh, Banihal, Neel, Gool, Bhaderwah, Arnas, Kastigard, Machail and several other parts are still under the cover of the snow, beside the normal temperature is below freezing point. Several people informed the "Early Times" that the students as well as the staff faces lot of problem in normal functioning of schools due to bad weather and cool temperature. They said that over 90% schools falling in winter zone of Jammu Division lacks not only infrastructure, but added that many schools are without windowpanes and doors. They said that many schools were functioned in open as many of them suffered massive damage in last year earthquake and are unsafe. They termed the denial of more winter vacations in Jammu Division as injustice and accused the Government of treating the people of Jammu Division as indifferent. The people also demanded more extension in winter vacation so that the students studying in these schools does not suffer on account of cold.
