Private schools ignore Div Com's order on vacation extension

SRINAGAR, Mar 10: Majority of the private educational institutions yet again paid no heed to the government order asking them to close down
their institutions following inclement weather across the Kashmir valley.
Early in the morning Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Shailender Kumar ordered for the closure of all the primary and middle schools for two days on account of widespread rains and snow. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir directed the management of all the schools both government and private to suspend the class work for two days for primary and middle classes.
Although the order was issued early in the morning but this did not work on the ground. One could see the students of primary classes of different educational institutions making it to the schools. At many places, students of lower classes were seen waiting for the bus to in shivering cold.
Parents had some tough times to face. They had to convince their children to attend the school. They expected the closure of schools even up to the higher secondary level as most of the schools have no capacity to run their schools in the adverse weather conditions.
"Some big schools of the valley are never ready to digest the orders issued by the state government more so Department of Education. Today also, these schools flouted the orders. It seems the management of these schools hasn't any consideration for the students of the tender age," said a group of parents while sharing their views with Early Times.
The worried parents made repeated phone calls to the offices of the schools hoping for a reply they wanted. But to their disappointment that was not to be. When the principal of a school was asked as to why he did not comply with the order, he replied that it is better to keep the school open in full since all the teachers are going to attend.
"When the principal of the other leading school was contacted about his decision not to give concession to the lower class students, he replied that it makes no sense to keep half of the students away from the school," said the parents. The parents were restless and they could not up to the terms vis-à-vis the diktats of private schools.
The parents blamed the lackadaisical attitude of the Department of Education for the hegemony being enjoyed by the owners and management of private educational institutions.
They asked when it is not advisable to come out of the homes in the severe cold, why have been the toddlers made scapegoats.
"The top brass concerned with the education department should pay due consideration to the grievances. They should realize the hardships students face as and when the private educational institutions ask students to attend schools during extreme wintry conditions," said the sources.
