| Engineering marvel called J&K PDD; Engineers want darkness to restore power supply | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 10: Engineers of Power Development Department (PDD) Jammu today created a history of sorts by keeping one half of Jammu city waiting for power supply since they wanted darkness to locate fault in the 33 KV Toph-Canal road power supply line. Localities of Talab Tiloo, Canal Road, Toph and adjoining areas remained without power since 3.30 am in the morning. The faults in power supply seemed to have become order of the day with XENs, AEEs and JEs spending more time in civil secretariat seeking choice postings and cancellation of transfer orders which the Election Commission of India (ECI) has seemingly already banned. If the Engineers of PDD are to be believed whose voice records are with Early Times, it was impossible for them to locate fault during the day time which had occurred at around 3.30 am in the morning and snapped power supply across the city. The supply had not been restored even after 18 hours in the Talab Tilloo and its adjoining areas. Such are the experienced and qualified PDD engineers that they wanted darkness to fall for repairing fault which they had been unable to locate. "We are trying but now, we have decided to wait for darkness to fall. We would give it a try and wherever we would be able to see 'spark', we would begin the repairs then and there," said an Engineer seeking anonymity. On being asked about fault not being located during the day time, he said "We are not robots neither do we expertise to locate faults on a line which runs from Toph to Canal during day times." XEN PDD Sudhir Gupta who looks after 33 KV line on being asked first denied that there was any problem from his side. "My lines are working perfectly. We have restored the power supply fully. Your information is not correct," said Sudhir. However, when he was told that XEN who looks after the local supply has said that 33 KV line is off and there is no fault on their part. He sought time for seeking information from the ground staff. At around 4.30 PM when Sudhir was again rung, he said "I have been told that there is some problem with 33 KV line. We are working and would be restored in the next one hour. This happens sometime." Interestingly, when another employee of PDD was asked, he said "We are waiting for night to fall. Once there is darkness, we would locate the fault and power supply would be restored." It may be recalled that this is the fifth time within less than a week when this city have had to experience long hours of power cuts. The fact is that similar situation of the power breakdown was noticed earlier. |
