| Congress feels on sticky wicket for Doda-Udh seat | | BJP candidate on aggressive spree....all set to cash in Muslim vote too....! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 10: As the poll campaign momentum has begun to pick up in J&K, Congress is finding itself on a sticky wicket for two seats in Jammu province. The dilemma and fear is for Doda Udhampur seat where political observers and even party leaders are skeptical about victory prospects this time. What has aggravated fear is the campaign in an aggressive manner led by BJP's candidate Dr Jitendra Singh and the overwhelming response he is receiving at every place. The fear is also redoubled on account of the feedback at the grass root level that Muslim vote, more so that of NC may not be cast in favour of Congress candidate this time for certain reasons. With Congress yet to formally announce the name of candidates for J&K, BJP candidate Dr Jitender Singh is aggressively pushing ahead with his spree of visits and rallies , road shows at places scheduled for first leg of election tour. According to observers Dr Singh is receiving more than expected response from people as seen during the last few days and this is being seen as massive success in the first phase in so far a his attempt in wooing the masses is concerned. The Basohli show, sources said was important for more than one reason that went utterly in favour of BJP and its candidate, much to discomfort of Congress and its projected canddiate Lal Singh. First it was in the home constituency of Lal Singh where Dr Singh is said to managed the political show very well, to an overwhelming response of the people as also from the entire party cadres. Basholi was also important in terms of it being the home town of Dr Nirmal Singh, who was a strong contender of BJP ticket and now being projected as disappointed and disgruntled, the resentment also having percolated down among his loyalists for denial of mandate. However, sources said this was not reflected at any level nor from any quarter as entire rank and file got associated with the rally and road shows in the belt. Even more important development which goes in favour of BJP and its candidate is the fact that full support came forth from an unexpected quarter sitting MLA Jagdish Sapolia, who was the only MLA not having been taken back into the party fold by the central leadership while four others who were expelled along with him have joined the party back. However, the most worrying factor for Congress this time apart from BJP's consistent and aggressive campaign, is the harsh feedback that Muslim vote in the hilly belt of this Parliamentary constituency may not get translated into its favour. Sources said the mood of voters of this community which is quite decisive collectively, indicates it was not averse to candidature of Dr Singh for the reason of him being soft spoken, non controversial, having rationale and in not toeing a rigid line of BJP and RSS. Sources also said that NC on which Congress banks on heavily for the two constituencies has also conveyed to Congress that party vote will not be cast in favour of Lal Singh this time, Kishtwar developments and statements also being factors that have been taken of serious cognizance by the NC voters. |
