Arun Singh JAMMU, May 23: After Congress' humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha polls in the Jammu region particularly from Udhampur constituency wherein former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad lost to BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh, the voices within the youth Congress from the Udhampur constituency are growing louder, seeking to expulsion the former MP Choudhary Lal Singh from the party for anti party campaigning by him and his supporters. Accusing Choudhary Lal Singh for Azad's defeat, sources in the party said that the anti party campaigning launched by him and his supporters ever since his candidature was cancelled to accommodate Ghulam Nabi Azad, a group of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) leaders from the Udhampur Constituency is going to meet AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and demand his expulsion from the party. They further said that Lal Singh, unhappy with the party's decision to give ticket to Azad ignoring him, started campaigning against Azad which caused huge damage to Congress vote banks at Billawar, Basohli and Bani and proved main reason behind Azad's defeat. Sources said that the delegation will also demand the overhauling of the State Congress unit keeping in view the coming Assembly elections to rejuvenate the dampened spirit of the party workers after recent drubbing. If sources are to be believed, Choudhary Lal Singh is constantly in contact with the Congress high command to save his losing ground in the party and aspiring to get himself accommodated as MLC in the Upper House as the term of a sitting party MLC is expiring soon. "Lal Singh played negative role in just concluded LS polls by not campaigning in favour of Azad to show his dissent which led to Azad's defeat," said the Congress workers. |
