| Modi as PM pushes KP bodies into flurry of activity | | Rekindles hope for Minority status to community | | | Jammu, May 23: Upbeat about Narender Modi led BJP's impressive victory in LS polls, Kashmiri Pandits are in celebratory mode with almost all organizations hailing Modi's elevation as next PM giving a new hope to community facing many challenges. While many organisations have greeted him with formal congratulatory messages, there are some which have begun some concrete action plans and strategies for future nursing optimism that many key issues unsettled so far would see a solution with Modi at the helm of country's highest office. Modi, all through the campaign for polls has been supportive of the cause of the Kashmiri Pandit community in a vehement manner. Riding high on this optimism, one of the front running bodies of community- Panun Kashmir is organizing a seminar in Jammu which is expected to discuss things and issues threadbare amid a new political situation and new hopes among people in general and KPs in particular. The Panun Kashmir contends that massive mandate to Modi led BJP has given new hopes to people which makes it imperative to discuss the issues afresh in new context and perspective in the emerging scenario so as to what it says 'evolve a cohesive and comprehensive strategy as also the mechanism for the organisation for future course of action. PK also believes that the new situation has given rise to new challenges as well which need to be discussed. Kashmiri Pandit organisations are also hopeful that the recommendation of a Parliamentary Committee to grant Minority status to the community would be examined in the new scenario both by the new government at Centre and the state government. The Parliamentary Panel has since recommended this in the wake of the fact that the community was forced to leave their homes in Valley over two decades back due to militancy and they remained in pathetic conditions for years. The community inhabiting in camps continues to face innumerable challenges due to indifferent attitude of the state government which has become a valid explanation for the MPs in the panel to strongly recommend this status based on facts and figures which support their argument. With Modi led BJP government at Centre, the KP bodies are now hopeful the issue would be pushed further into some conclusive mode much to the favour of the community. |
