| Congress introspects, rues alliance with NC | | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, May 23: The first review meeting of state Congress according to reports ended with regret on decision of pre-poll alliance with National conference. Possible reshuffle in state Congress and watch on use of Government machinery by coalition partner ahead of upcoming Assembly elections also came up for discussion. Congress Ministers Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for Tourism Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, former Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress committee Saif-ud-Din Soz were present. They unanimously regretted the decision of forming pre-poll alliance with NC. The meeting, reports said, discussed in detail the pros and cons which led to the defeat of NC-Congress alliance candidates in general and Congress candidates who contested from Jammu and Ladkah divisions in particular. "Almost everybody agreed that the decision of forming pre-poll alliance was a blunder which high command committed without consulting the state leadership. The Ministers reviewed the reasons of cross voting, anger among people for NC candidates across the Kashmir and blame game from NC leadership despite supporting their candidates whole heartedly, reports said. The reasons for breakdown of NC-Congress alliance in Ladakh despite orders of high command was also discussed, reports said. The meeting urged the two lobbies of the party to unite in the interest of the organization. The meeting also suggested changes in the organizational set up in all the regions of the state. Reports said Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to spend more time in Srinagar and further review meetings are on cards. |
