BARAMULLA, May 23 : Jammu and Kashmir police, SOG and Army's 29 Rashtriya Rifle (RR), acting on a specific intelligence input regarding presence of a cache of arms and ammunition destroyed a hideout in North Kashmir on Friday. According to sources, panic gripped in North Kashmir's Baramulla district after government forces on a tip of information cordoned off the graveyard of a Prominent Muslim saint Amma Sahib in Pattan. "Acting on a specific intelligence input regarding presence of a cache of arms and ammunition in Poshwani area of Pattan in Baramulla district, a joint search operation was launched by Army and police on Friday," a defence spokesman said. He said during the search of the area, security forces recovered two AK 47 rifles along with three magazines and 79 rounds of ammunition. The other recoveries included three rounds of RPG, one round of 51mm RPG, one UBGL, 13 rounds of UBGL, three IED circuit along with 100 grams of explosive and four hand grenades. In another operation, security forces recovered two AK rifles, three magazines, 221 AK rounds, six pistols and 80 assorted rounds of ammunition from a militant hideout from Beaswali forest in Kupwara district on Thursday, defence sources said. During another joint operation, a hideout was busted in the forests of Handwara area of Kupwara district. Huge quantity of administrative stores which includes over 100 kgs of dry ration, cooking oil and condiments were recovered from the hideout. Meanwhile a complete shutdown was observed in North Kashmir's Palhalan area of Baramulla district on Friday in remembrance of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant commander who was killed last year on May 23 in Fateh Kadal Srinagar city during a gun-fight with government forces. According to eyewitness, that all Schools, shops and other business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads. People observed complete shutdown and offered prayers for the slain LeT commander Hilal Ahmad Rather alias Hilal Moulvi resident of Palhallan Village on his first death anniversary. While as Large contingent of police and Para-military troopers had been deployed to thwart any kind of protests. As precautionary measures police had laid barricades and concertina wires at various places in Palhallan said eyewitness. Hilal Molvi had joined militant ranks in 2012 after being booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) in cases relating to stone throwing and disruption of peace said source. |
