| Dulat pressurizing Hurriyat leaders to talk to Modi Govt | | Implications of ignoring Jammu, Ladakh | | Neha JAMMU, May 23: Former RAW chief A S Dulat, who recently visited the Kashmir Valley for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation there, has urged the Hurriyat leaders, who represent Pakistan in Kashmir, to discard "dogmatic approach" and talk to the Narendra Modi Government. "I fail to understand why Hurriyat leadership is reluctant to hold a dialogue with the Government of India. Now the Government of India has changed and Modi has already assured that he will pursue the policies of Vajpayee, so it is right time for Hurriyat to get engaged with New Delhi…The emergence of Modi and new Government at Centre has provided a new opportunity to the separatist leadership in Kashmir. Hurriyat leadership should understand that there is nothing wrong in holding dialogue with Modi Government. They have nothing to lose and it is right time for them to share the table with Narendra Modi," Dulat was quoted as saying. It was not the first occasion that the former RAW chief poked his nose in the Jammu and Kashmir affairs and gave the nation to understand that the Hurriyat leadership constitutes the sole factor in the state's political situation and that it has to be conciliated if peace is to forged in the Valley on a permanent basis. Earlier this month, he had also visited the Valley and met with several persons to discuss the situation there. He has good relations with several "mainstream" Kashmiri leaders. His advice to the Hurriyat leadership that it should get engaged with the new Government at the Centre is very intriguing. Intriguing all the more because the election results have proved beyond any shadow of doubt that while Jammu and Ladakh have rejected outrightly the Congress, NC and the PDP and voted for the mainstream politics or the BJP, Kashmir has voted against the NC and for the PDP, which, unlike the NC and the Congress, didn't even once criticize Narendra Modi and the BJP. The message from Jammu and Ladakh was loud and clear and the message was complete integration into India, national unity and integrity and complete faith in the mainstream politics. To ignore this message and bat for the irrelevant and divided Hurriyat leaders, who have been surviving and thriving on the blood of gullible Kashmiri Muslims, would be only to prepare ground in Jammu and Ladakh for powerful political explosions and create unrest in the peaceful regions of the state. And why the way what will the Hurriyat leadership talk after getting engaged with New Delhi? Some of them want merger of the state with Pakistan. Some want independence from India. Some stand for semi-independence. Some stand for India-Pakistan joint control over Jammu and Kashmir saying this could be the first step towards the final destination and all agree that Pakistan is a factor in Kashmir that needs to be recognized and fully appreciated. Who will endorse these nasty and break-India formulas? The Narendra Modi Government will certainly not. The likes of Dulat would do well to hold themselves aloof from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. They have no business. It is also time for the Government of India to take care of persons like AS Dulat who have been masquerading as trouble-shooters and Kashmir experts. |
