Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, May 23: Finding it difficult to swallow the embarrassment of a total rout in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, ruling National Conference is in utter disarray and in a bid to insulate Omar from the sharp criticism, a lobby within the party is pointing fingers of accusation on a senior Minister. After raising slogans against senior leadership of the party and demanding ouster of several party functionaries, a senior is now being accused of party's dismal performance. Sources within the party divulge that following series of meetings to introspect the causes of party's poor showing at various levels, the said Minister is being held responsible for affording the anguish of the electorate. "The doomed new recruitment policy was his brain child, he was responsible for offending the large Army of Government employees on scores of issues including release of their pending dues, enhancement of retirement age, regularization of daily wagers and several others," said a senior party functionary, quoting a Minister in coalition Government. Political analyst, however, trash such accusations against a particular Minister arguing that despite his seniority and position in the council of Ministers, the decisions are taken only under the hand and seal of the Chief Minister. "Whether it is the issue of formulating the new recruitment policy or not addressing the concerns of the state Government employees, the final decision has always vested in Chief Minister. In this light, it is unfair to blame a single Minister for the crushing defeat of the National Conference in the polls", a Srinagar based political commentator lamented. A Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted by the Chief Minister to look into the issues pertaining to the state Government employees wherein it was decided that the issues of the state Government employees will be redressed within three months. The question is if the CSC made its recommendations to the Cabinet, why did the Government headed by Chief Minister not implement the recommendations. Political analysts further question as to why did the Government choose a confrontationist approach with the agitating employees. In such a scenario the question is that who should be blamed for the drubbing received by the National Conference in the Parliamentary elections. |
