Damage control or relief to people

SRINAGAR, May 23: The scrapping of the new job policy and lifting of the ban on the shorter messaging service (SMS) clearly shows as to how much haughty and mean the coalition partners are. These moves are seen as the damage control other than providing relief to the people.
These moves are cosmetic in nature to repair the damage done to the coalition in the recently concluded parliamentary elections. Other tricks of the ruling coalition have failed to be prudent for them. The parties in power want to use these gestures as the vote gaining policy ahead of the assembly election scheduled in the later part of the current.
"It is the coalition in power which imposed ban on the SMS services saying that it is the threat to peace and lives of the people. They justified this ban as according to them it was harmful for the national security. Now for them the situation has improved in just one weak and there is no need for the ban to stay on," said some youth at Srinagar while talking to Early Times.
These youth were of the opinion that these gestures of the ruling alliance are nothing but poll planks to trap the people especially youth ahead of the assembly election. These youth said that one proverb which comes to their minds is 'A drowning man catches at a straw'. These moves lack humane approach as all this is happening given the compulsions of the ruling coalition. The government was nowhere to be found during the last five years as people suffered immensely during this period. The achievements of this government are nothing more than scandals whatever in nature.
Sensing trouble, the people in power have now adopted the healing touch policy as their last minute effort before the coming assembly elections to hoodwink the people particularly youth who bore the brunt of the oppressive policies over the years hence filling their hearts with hate and anger.
"It will not be a surprising move if the people in power enhance the retirement age by two years or wave off the electricity charges given the fact that here is a strong hate wave going against these people," said some visibly upset people at Budgam.
They added that the defeat of the stalwarts like that of Ghulam Nabi Azad and Farooq Abdullah is a clear writing on the wall for the haughty and selfish politicians. These people went to the extent saying that if these people come to power for another term then it will nothing but ill luck of the people.
