| Food minister embarrasses Director CAPD | | Puts 190 transfers on hold | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 23: Much to the embarrassment of Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department Kashmir, the Food Minister has put all the 190 transfer orders of different employees on hold. Highly placed sources revealed that the concerned Minister took this step after the intervention of one of his blue-eyed personal staff member. The Food Ministry has issued an order vide number CAPDK/Admn/b-x-41 in this regard and has directed the CA&PD Director to implement it in letter and spirit. In a bid to gear up his department and to make officials and other employees accountable, Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Bashir Ahmed Khan had transferred at least 190 employees before the implementation of Model Code of Conduct this year. Most of the transferred employees had been on the same location from past 10 to 15 years. These transfers were effected across Kashmir. An official in the CA&PD department said that for the first time transfers were made on merit basis and the incumbent Director displayed no nepotism while making any transfer. "All these employees were transferred in the interest of the people and department, but we fail to understand why these orders were put in abeyance after two months," the official said. Another official stated that CA&PD minister Chodhri Muhammad Ramzan kept the transfer orders in abeyance after the intervention of one of his 'favourite' personal staff member. "Some of the transferred employees some of whom are allegedly involved in 'fraud and scams' approached 'Minister's favourite staff member' and he accordingly prevailed upon the Minister to keep these transfer orders on hold," he said adding that it is move aimed at to cover up 'tainted' officials. Food Minister Chodhri Muhammad Ramzan while refuting these allegations told a news agency that some transfer orders were put on hold on the directions of Election Commission. "All the transfers were made before the Model Code of Conduct. But some employees could not join the duties till MCC was implemented and accordingly Election Commission directed us to put the transfers of those employees on hold," he said adding that the allegations leveled against him are baseless and far from truth. Meanwhile, the Director CAPD Bashir Ahmad Khan confirmed that the order of transfers was stopped- stating that he obeyed the government order that was issued to him from secretariat. |
