Jammu, May 23: A prisoner today made a futile bid to escape during court appearance but was re-arrested by the alert Police in Kathua.
"The accused has been identified namely as Nasso s/o Namdin resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pardesh, police sources said.
According to sources, the convict was taken to court for hearing at District Court Kathua here today, from where he gave a slip to police team and escaped from the court. Acting promptly the police alerted the nakas and re arrested the fugitive from the Mukharji Chowk, Kathua, sources added.
Meanwhile, SSP Kathua Mohan Lal when contacted, said that a fresh FIR against the runaway jail inmate has been registered with Kathua Police Station in this connection.
Meantime, he said, "A request has been made to court to issue directive that all prisoners should be produced before court with handcuffs to avoid any repetition of such an incident. |
