Kathua, Oct 14: Several cleanliness drives under slogan of Swachh Bharat Campaign' was launched on October 2, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to realize Mahatma Gandhi's dream of clean India but to its sharp contrast, the 'threshold of state' Kathua town present a gory look to visitors courtesy apathy of local Municipal Committee which has turned city into a nightmare
Several people of the Kathua town alleged while the whole nation responded to Prime Minister's call for a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Programme), but due to apathy of Kathua Municipal Council and other concerned agencies the scrap dealers and vendors in city are not only busy in illegal encroachment but also are defacing city roads.
Majority of scrap dealers, Motor Cycle Machine working near Collage Road, Hatli More Chowk, and Parliwand near Foot Bridge, enjoying the patronage of municipality and other law enforcing authorities and are encroaching the city roads eating up their spaces for normal traffic. Locals from Hatli Morh Kathua, Rakesh Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, and Pawan alleged that we have sent several written complaints to the municipality but till date no one has taken action and cleared the roads encroached by scrap dealers. They also alleged that one of the scrap dealers' shop which is just at zero meters away from National Highway near Hatli Morh Chowk which has consumed good part of highway but no one from municipality's anti-encroachment squad dares to take any action as many of them are having hand in glove with such dealers.
Locals demanded early action against the encroachers who are creating inconvenience to the locals and the normal traffic on the city roads.
