Flood 'ghost' continues to haunt coalition Govt as senior NC leader faces embarrassing situation
Flood affected people give vent to feelings

SRINAGAR, Oct 14: A senior Cabinet Minister and senior National Conference leader today faced an embarrassing situation as a group of people disrupted his speech during a function here. The protesters accused the NC leader of fleeing the Kashmir valley during the ravaging flood that hit the state in first week of September.
As soon as the senior NC leader started his speech a group of people stood up and raised objection over the speech. The protesters objected to the speech of the senior NC leader saying that he has got no mandate whatsoever to talk about the relief measures being taken by the State Government for providing relief to flood affected people.
"You people are the one who drowned Kashmir valley and now it is a pity that you are delivering sermons to the people who lost everything in the flood. The State Government miserably failed in preventing the flood and this was followed by lackadaisical attitude in taking up the rescue and relief operations," said the people who were quite vociferous in their protest.
The function was held in connection with 'Jammu and Kashmir Special Credit-cum-Relief Camps' here at SKICC. Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office, Jitendra Singh was the special guest on the occasion and it was also attended by Chairman Indian Banks' Association (IBA) T M Bhasin, Jammu and Kashmir Bank Chairman & CEO Mushtaq Ahmad, Principal Secretary to Government B B Vyas, Joint Secretary (MoF) Alok Tandon and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Rohit Kansal.
The protesters said that the senior NC leader instead of saving the lives or facilitating in saving the lives of people, impressed upon the rescue teams to save his family members who were trapped in the flood. They said that after rescuing his family members the senior NC leader shifted out of Srinagar only to settle down in the cozy comforts of the winter capital, Jammu.
"First you people failed to save the lives of common masses and then afterwards there was no relief for the stranded people. Huge bungling took place in the relief material meant for the flood affected people. You should hang your head in shame and stop delivering sermons who are yet to come out of the shock that is there due to the devastating flood," said the protesters.
Amidst the din nothing could be heard and the senior NC leader was forced to cut short his speech. The speech of senior NC leader was voluminous and it was expected to last for at least half an hour. Contrary to this he could hardly speak for 10 minutes and out of this there was complete disruption for six or seven minutes.
Taking advantage of the anger against senior NC leader, Jitendra Singh said that it clearly proves that relief has not reached the deserving people. He said politicians owe their success to the people and once the people raise revolt it means that the elected representatives have failed them.
The Union Minister asked the protesting people to decide about their future once they go for casting their vote during the next Assembly elections. He said the masses should elect that representative who is quite akin to their problems and comes out with a solution to these problems.
