Omar's free ration announcement irks homeless flood victims
Demand rehabilitation ahead of winter

Anantnag/Kulgam, Oct 14: Outraged over free ration announcement, flood victims of these southern districts while demanding rehabilitation ahead of winter, have accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of playing political franks.
Homeless flood victims in Argatnoo Village of Kulgam district accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of ignoring their sufferings and politicizing the flood catastrophe by announcing 'free ration' to all included unaffected bureaucrats.
"It seems Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is deliberately delaying the rehabilitation of homeless flood victims which is quit strange and unacceptable as he continues to promise since the day one after water
receded that he will rehabilitate us on priority but on ground his serve teams have not yet completed assigning the damage." Mohammad Ashraf, a resident of the village said.
He said that in past one month several government agencies have dozes times surveyed our village but still villagers have not received any kind of help from the government excluding few blue eyed families having affiliation with his party.
Mudasir Ahmad, a student of the same village feels free ration to all including to unaffected bureaucrats is injustice with the homeless flood affected population.
"Isn't this injustice that the a homeless villager of my village will receive the same quantity of ration from the government ration store which a top bureaucrat of this state will receive." He says, adding priority of government must be rehabilitation of homeless as winter is approaching.
Residing in temporary tents in front of Kelam Primary Hospital, flood victims of Gund Kelam too criticized Chief Minister for announcing free ration to all.
"Instead of giving free ration to KAS and IAS officers, employees earning in thousands Omar Abdullah must have considered our sufferings. We don't want free ration. People who helped us at that time will provide us the ration but we need land and monetary relief so that we can rebuild our homes," they said.
"I think mountains might have received snowfall today. Where will we go, if it starts snowing in the morning?" Aijaz Ahmad, while demanding identification of land and full compensation of their washed away houses said.
Government must reconsider its decision and announce free ration to people living below poverty line class particularly to affected areas." Says rights activist Mushtaq Phalgami According to the officials of Consumer Affairs and Public distribution, the department will start distributing free ration to the people of the state from this month. "It's definitely a wrong step by the present regime, imagine officials who are drawing salaries in thousands will even be receiving free ration." Official whishing anonymity said.
Homeless flood victims are demanding rehabilitation and government seems is insensitive towards this critical issue, says a top bureaucrat.
Flood victims in Anantnag told Early Times that several politicians are promising them help if they voted to them power in coming assembly polls.
"Few people mostly probably of BJP yesterday visited us and promised help but at the same time said that they will help us only if voted them in coming elections." Ghulam Rasool of Bijbehara said.
Meanwhile South Kashmir Civil Society (SKCS) expressed strong reservations over the scheduled Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir, if held, demanded rehabilitation of flood victims before the onset of winter.
Spokesperson of the amalgam and senior journalist, Rao Farman Ali in issued statement said, "SKCS reiterated that state administration at this point of time should come clear will futuristic housing/building/construction policy equally meant for both rural/urban areas and such structures should be allowed to build which are earthquake/cold/wind resistant and bear the heavy weight of snow during snowfalls."
