Pak shells LoC again, targets over 10 posts, villages | | | MS Nazki MENDHAR, Oct 14: Pakistan today again shelled the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sub-sector of Poonch, targeting over 10 Army posts and residential areas. Official sources said Balakote sub-sector, where two Army jawans and a woman were wounded on Monday in the heavy shelling, today again became the target of the enemy troops. India returned the fire effectively, the sources added. Over 10 Army posts, including M S Tekri, Kunikar Bunker, Panini Nullah and 431, and villages became the target of Pak firing. The unprovoked enemy action caused no harm on the Indian side. Loss, if any, on the Pak side was yet to be ascertained, sources said. The heavy shelling and gunfire started at about 1.30 pm and ended at 4 pm. Troops are on high alert all along the LoC and the International Border in Jammu as they expect such mischieves from the neighbouring country. Multiple checking points had been established in the border areas to foil any infiltration bid from across the borders, the sources added. There are about 35 Government schools in the border Balakote areas. Students are not going to these schools as they are unofficially closed for the past few days due to the fear of shelling and firing from across the LoC. Farmers are also unable to go to their fields due to the disturbance on the LoC. There was, however, no ceasefire violation by Pakistan along International Border (IB) in Jammu frontier, sources said. "Though there has been no firing by Pakistani troops since yesterday morning, an uneasy calm prevailed along the 192-km long IB in Jammu region," the sources added. The IB witnessed heavy firing by Pakistani troops this month which left eight persons dead and over 90 injured, including 13 security men. |
