Pats its own back for 'exemplary' rescue work, no mention of Army, NDRF | NC's memorandum- A tragic comedy! | | Abodh Sharma JAMMU, Oct 14: Shamefully contradicting their leader and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who himself confessed that there existed literally no Government for first three days after devastating floods hit Srinagar; Contrary to the fact that the Ministers of the National Conference resurfaced in the summer capital days after the floods had begun to recede; And notwithstanding the fact that the Ministers had to face public fury at several places and were subjected to violent protests, National Conference today passed a resolution patting its own back for rescue work during floods. In a meeting presided over by NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and attended by NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani , the party passed a memorandum lauding the 'role of the courageous workers of National Conference who demonstrated exemplary valor by playing a heroic role in rescue and relief operations in all flood-hit areas of the State'. Interestingly, while Sagar- Wani were getting the memorandum passed at party HQ, Legislative Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul was facing public wrath in his own constituency during his visit to Eidgah area of Srinagar. According to eyewitnesses, Gul and his men tried to talk to the agitated people resulting in a scuffle. Locals said it was Gul's first visit to his constituency after the devastating flood. Back at Nawai Subh, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani while singing in self praise lauded the 'exemplary role played by workers of National Conference in rescue and relief operations silently and without any urge for publicity', conveniently forgot the role played by the Army and other security agencies in launching rescue operation of such magnitude that saved thousands of lives. "Both Sagar and Wani deliberately did not utter a word mentioning the yeoman services rendered by Army, BSF, CRPF, NDRF and others inorder to appease their vote bank" said a local. Laughably, the NC leaders also lauded the role of Administration in 'battling the crisis' even as the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary had to issue threatening notices to the Babus to return to work or their salaries would be withheld. While the emphasis of the NC leaders at Nawai Subh was on the huge demand of 44 thousand crores that the State Government has projected to the Centre for rehabilitation and rebuilding initiatives post floods, they refrained from issuing a single statement in favour of the Union Government for doing whatever it did to help people of the state in distress. NC leaders also accused the opposition PDP of insensitivity for demanding Assembly elections in time, but many believe that NC was actually trying to delay the inevitable by seeking to delay the elections and projecting others as villainous in public eye. |
