Jammu, Oct 14: Two Day workshop on peacebuilding being organized by the NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu concluded here today. In the two day workshop spread into four sessions, series of activities like students' conference, poetry recitation, poster making competition, and signature campaign covering various themes related to peacebuilding and role that Youth, Women, Media, UN, NGOs etc. can play for a peaceful world were organized. While speaking on occasion, Prof. Anurag Gangal, Director, Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu who was Chief Guest in valedictory function said that non-violence is prerequisite for sustainable peace in world. Principal of College, Dr. Kiran Bakshi also emphasised upon the need of building attitudes that can prevent violent conflicts and ensure peaceful co-existence of all. "Let us give peace a chance to prevail both within national boundaries and beyond" she added. Prof. Sarla Kohli, Principal (Retd.) and social activist, also spoke on "Women and Peacebuilding" and elaborated how women can be actively involved in peacebuilding processes. Prof. Shrotika, NSS Programme Officer presented a talk on Non-violence and Peacebuilding. R.C. Puri, Secretary Red Cross Jammu who chaired the first session, who delivered a talk on ways to sustainable peace and peacebuilding, suggested that there should be Peace Units in Universities, Colleges and Schools and youth exchange programmes to minimize the misunderstanding between neighbouring nations. "Students can serve as bricks for the peacebuilding", he said. NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Shiveta Gandotra, presented report of the proceedings of workshop and Prof. Nazia Rasool thanked the guests whereas NSS Volunteers Mevish, Mehak, Rukiya, Ashwinder, Uzma, Farah under the guidance of NSS Programme officer and Convenor of Workshop, Dr. Ashaq Malik and other POs conducted the proceedings of programme. |
