Ceasefire violation: Rangers target civilians, heavy shelling along IB on 5th day | | | Arun Trisal Early Times Report
Hiranagar, Jan.5: The Pakistani Rangers again targeted civilians with heavy shelling and mortars that damaged houses, crops and livestock of dozens of villages situated along International Border (IB). Mortars also fell on rooftops of some houses. Today, the Rangers continually targeted people on fifth day at 2.15 pm at Chandra Chak, Bobiya, Rathua, Paharpur, Pansar and other adjoining villages where schools were open. Terror gripped these areas after the shelling. People were worried about the safety of their children who were in schools. People ran to safer places. However, the schools were later closed by the administration. The situation remained tense in the villages and people had to live in terror throughout the night. Many houses have been damaged in the Pak firing that killed livestock and damaged crops too. It is pertinent to mention here that the firing in the last few days has caused injuries to several villagers in Hiranagar sector. Hundreds of affected people have moved to safer places in relief camps at Chadwal, Chakra, Dayalachak, and Hiranagar where people are up in arms against local administration for not providing them appropriate facilities in this chilling cold. They said the administration had distributed one blanket and one kg rice per family which was insufficient. They said local administration had not made any provision of transport. People had to arrange their own convenience in emergency, they added. The Rangers opened heavy firing during last night along International Border at Hiranagar Sector where BSF equally retaliated. |
