Only 3 docs extend their services in GMC | Evening clinics almost defunct | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 5: Much hyped evening clinics in Government Medical College and its associated hospitals across JK have become almost defunct due to lackadaisical approach of concerned authorities and un-willingness of doctors to attend the evening clinics. Amazingly, very few people are aware about the evening clinics being run to serve them. State government had opened evening clinics in the premier hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir on May 1, 2013 to provide better health care facilities to poor and needy people. Astonishingly, there are only three doctors who attend evening clinics established in GMC hospital here. "These doctors have not fixed schedule. They visit these clinics as per their convenience", sources said. They said the proposal to have evening clinics was moved to help the patients from urban areas as hospitals usually remain crowded during the day time with people from far flung areas visiting these health institutions. "Soon after the proposal was moved, some senior doctors at both GMCs, Jammu and Srinagar opposed the plan of the state government to open evening clinics in the medical colleges and its associated hospitals," sources claimed and added that the doctors had claimed that starting evening clinics in the government hospitals would add to the confusion. When contacted Principal of GMC hospital Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta said that the evening clinics in the government hospitals are running and needy patients are taking benefits of the facility. Dr Gupta however failed to answer many patients visit evening clinics daily. |
