BARAMULLA, Jan 5: The Jetty -Johamma road is in dilapidated conditions and a vital bridge between Jetty and Janbazpora is still under construction from last nine years, local resident's blame that R&B authorities are in a deep slumber in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. According to sources that, "the Jetty link road in Khowjabagh area of Baramulla town is in a dilapidated conditions, roads can connect many areas with other parts of the town through Jetty area. The Khojabagh-Johamma road via Jetty, which connects over nine to ten villages in Baramulla and Handwara, has been rendered non-motarable due to want of repairs. Bashir Ahmad a local Resident of Jetty said that "The road is dotted with big potholes. It is hardly motarable, the road had not been repaired completely by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department for the past 6 years. He says, the road assumes significance as this road can shorten the distance of many villages like Johamma, Ladoora, Janbazpora, Chackloo, Nadihal, Binner, and even though Kupwara district too. However people from Johama told Early Times that the road between Johamma and Baramulla via Jetty is not motarable, however the locals said that Municipal Council Baramulla has made this area as garbage dump. During winter, they have to reach Baramulla town via Kanispora, otherwise if this Jetty road would have been in a better condition, it may have shorten their distance by five kilometres, local residents of Johama said. Meanwhile the construction work on a vital bridge at Jetty and Janbazpora in Baramulla district is going at snail's pace, the work on which was started in 2002, is yet to be completed. The local resident of an area says that they have been facing numerous problems due to in completion of this bridge on the Baramulla-Srinagar highway. "The J&K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) had started work on this bridge in 2002 but the construction agency suspended the work many times in past, after spending more than Rs 2 crore, locals said. A senior official from JKPCC wishing anonymity said that, The state government in 2003 had asked the authorities to complete the construction of bridge at Jetty but the latter did not respond which further delayed the construction work. The official said that, "The work on the vital bridge was suspended due to the paucity of funds. He however said, the work on the bridge is going at snail's pace and will take many more years in completion of the bridge. |
