After New Year hooliganism, NIMS University asks over 100 JK students to vacate hostel | Students denied roll number slips, likely to be barred from sitting in exam | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Kishtwar, Jan 5: After hooliganism on new year day caused large scale violence, Rajasthan based NIMS university asked 140 students hailing from different states including over 100 from Jammu & Kashmir to vacate the hostel with immediate effect. Many students among the list of expelled students pleaded innocence and accused the university of victimization. They added that many students who had been asked to vacate the hostel are presently spending holidays at home. The university authorities also denied roll number slips to the students and are likely to barred them from sitting in examination started in next few days. As per the notice issued by the NIMS University available with "Early Times" issued by Registrar of the university vide Ref. No. NU/Reg/2015/027 dated 2-1-2015, the Registrar of the University asked the students to vacate the hostel with immediate affect while sighting the incident of new year night in which the unidentified hooligans ransacked the hostel warden building, set university property on fire following university restriction in Gandhi block of the hostel on New Year day. "Though 12 students detain by the police after New Year hooliganism incident were released on surety bond of Rs. 10000 each, but due to prevailing uncertainty inside the campus and to maintain peace, the university authorities has decided to expel the students (140) from the hostel with the direction to vacate the hostel by 3 PM on Saturday 3-1-2015" read the university notice. The notice also warn the disciplinary action against the candidates who violated the order. While talking to "Early Times" many students slam the notice issued by the Registrar of the university and termed the university decision as victimization. "I am presently at home in Jammu--- my friends informed me that my name also featured in the list of expellee--- university authorities must verify the things first before issuing such notice" said a student wishing anonymity. He said that similarly many of his friends were on holidays in Kashmir added that their names too featured in the list of expelled students. He said that many students were in dilemma as examinations are schedule form 7th of this month and termed the decision of university as harsh and illegal. "It is very difficult to arrange rented accommodation in Jaipur in such short time-where we go when our exams are approaching fast--- university authorities must revoke the order of register for the sake of our future" said another student. He said that the students are not against taking disciplinary action against the culprits involved in New Year hooliganism, added that innocent students must not suffer for the sake of others. Many students demanded a detail probe into the incident and demanded stern action against the guilty without considering their affiliation to any state or religion. The students said that the students belonging to Jammu and Kashmir are easy target and are being victimized on one or other pretext. The students urged upon the university Vice Chancellor to revoke the order with immediate effect, beside to give a chance to the innocent students to explain their position, beside a chance to defend themselves. It is pertinent to mention that NIMS University Gandhi block A hostel witnessed a clash between the security guards of the hostel and the students following the restriction on celebration of New Year inside hostel premises. The angry students ransacked the hostel and put warden quarter on fire after a Bihari student was injured in a scuffle with hostel security. |
