Shah talks Govt formation with JK leaders | PDP's main agenda peace: Akther | | Shiv Dev Thakur
Early Timers Report
Jammu, Jan 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Amit Shah chaired an important meeting of the BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi today and discussed way forward for the government formation in the state, sources told Early Times. They said the main motive of the meeting was to discuss the government formation as People's Democratic Party has hinted at it being inclined towards BJP to form the government. Sources said that PDP has set a few conditions for the alliance with the BJP. It wants Centre to resume talks with Pakistan, Kashmiri separatists, revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from militancy free areas and wants its prospective ally to put the issue of Article 370 on the backburner. Sources said that PDP is not that keen on entering into an alliance with either Congress or the National Conference owing to the presence of BJP in the Centre as party leadership believes that state would get all the support from Centre if PDP joins hands with the saffron party. The state unit of the BJP, according to the sources, has raised the issue of granting state subject status to the refugees from Pakistan, with the union government. The PDP Chief Spokesperson Naeem Akthar said that although the Governor has set January 19 as a deadline for government formation in the state, PDP is confident that it would not compromise on the issues for which people of Kashmir have reposed their faith in his party. He added that the core agenda of PDP is to maintain peace, discourse and reconciliation with the neighbouring country. He said that the cross-LoC trade and travel are two important issues. "As these issues are more important, AFSPA will have to go in any case and the power projects have to be returned to JK," he added. |
