2.19 lakh cfts of timber supplied to flood victims in Valley

SRINAGAR, Jan 5: The Chief Conservator of Forests convened a meeting to take stock of supply position of timber to flood victims.
The meeting was informed that 4.21 lakh cft of timber have been stocked in the special temporary depots established in flood affected areas across the valley and 2.19 lakh cft have been issued to 2908 owners of households for re-construction and renovation of their damaged houses. At present 2.02 lakh cfts of timber are available in the depots for supply to the remaining flood victims. Supplies are being made in the rural belt comprising of “A”, “B” and “C” Zones. As regards supply in Srinagar Municipal limits, the same is being made by State Forest Corporation.
A review about the normal timber supply position through Forest sale depots was also taken. The Chief Conservator of Forests was informed that against target of 13.50 lakh cfts of timber fixed for the current financial year 13.14 lakh cfts have already been stocked, out of which 9.20 lakh cft have been issued.
Regarding fire wood supplies, it was given out that in Srinagar city fire wood have already been supplied to 1098 Mosques and a total of 38,774 quintals have been issued upto 12/2014. While in rural belt (town area limits), the supply of 34,006 quintals has already been made for Mosques.
The Chief Conservator of Forests enjoined upon the concerned officers to complete the envisaged targets well within the stipulated timeframe.
