Charge against India untenable | Kashmir's demography | | Neha
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 7: Islamabad has unleashed a vilification campaign against India to mislead the international community. It is accusing New Delhi of changing the demography of Kashmir by deciding to settle the Hindu refugees there. Its charge is as baseless as it is mischievous and condemnable. It is not New Delhi that is attempting to change the demography of Kashmir; it's the regressive forces in the Valley, which were backed to the hilt by the Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, mercenaries and Jihadis, who changed the demographic profile of Kashmir as early as in early 1990, when they unleashed a reign of senseless brutalities against the miniscule minority of Kashmiri Hindus with a view to causing its exodus and converting the Kashmir Valley into one particular community. They created such a hostile environment in the Valley in 1990 that all, barring a handful of Kashmiri Hindus, and many Sikhs vacated the Valley. This is an established fact, which has been recognized by the international community and civilized world. Who doesn't know that lakhs and lakhs of the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus have been living in Jammu and elsewhere in the country since than, with their organizations, including Panun Kashmir, demanding the establishment of a separate homeland for their community within the Valley invested with Union territory status so that the exiled community could go back to its original habitat and lead there a dignified life. Only on January 19, the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus observed holocaust day to attract the attention of the international community and seek its intervention so that it could be rehabilitated in their own land. It's not only the regressive forces in the Valley and the Pakistan-trained, indoctrinated and aided terrorists and mercenaries who cleansed the Valley of almost all non-Muslims in 1990. The rulers of the time in New Delhi also refused to act. They watched the reign of brutalities inflicted on the minority communities in the valley as mute spectator and the result was that the fanatics enacted anti-humanity acts in the valley with utmost ease and achieved their nefarious design. Islamabad, which on February 5 adopted another anti-India resolution on Jammu & Kashmir and observed that day as the so-called solidarity day, has been only talking about the demography profile in this part of the state, but it has been withholding the truth as far as the changes in the demographic profiles in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, which is legitimately India and which has been under the illegal occupation of Pakistan since 1947-1948, as well as Jammu province is concerned. As for Jammu, it has become a land of refugees, all victims of fanaticism. Their number is more than 1.5 million. Not only this, many from Kashmir have occupied the state land in Jammu and constructed palatial houses and set up big business establishments there much against the wishes of the local population. They could change the Jammu's demographic profile because they enjoyed official patronage with some of them occupying important positions in the government, bureaucracy, revenue department, forest department, police department, finance department and so on. And what about Gilgit-Baltistan? Gilgit-Baltistan was a Shiite dominated region. The entire population of the region was against Pakistan. It wanted, and wants, independence from Pakistan. Convinced that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan could create serious troubles in the area for Pakistan, the Pakistani rulers evolved and implemented policies which resulted in the settlement of lakhs of Pakistanis in the region. The result was the wholesale change in the demography of the region. It's time for New Delhi to call the Pakistani bluff and educate the international community about the sinister game plan of Islamabad. It was good that New Delhi on February 5 reiterated that Jammu & Kashmir shall ever remain part of India and Pakistan will not be able to snatch even an inch of thee state territories. But this is not enough. It must exercise its authority and empower all the refugees living in different parts of Jammu province. Not only this, New Delhi also needs to repeal Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution which has only helped the anti-national and anti-Indian forces in the Valley. |
