How secular is Omar? 2/8/2015 12:13:44 AM Jammu, feb 8: National Conference working president and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah played to the galleries last week while delivering a speech on secularism. Surprisingly, the lecture did not evoke any response from the BJP against which the lecture was mainly directed. Some people believe that NC had a `special relation’ with the BJP and may be approached for government formation if a deal is not struck with the single largest party. While BJP’s silence made many brows rise in state’s political circles, nobody questioned the so-called secularcredentials of Omar Abdullah. Isn’t he the same Abdullah who fuelled communal feelings in Jammu region in October 2008 while speaking in the parliament? The speech was highly loaded with communal stuff. While lashing out at communal forces for Babri demolition, Omarsaid not an inch of land shall be given, not even for a temple. Omar won acclaim for the speech but Kashmiriyat became a casualty. The already polarized state went to the verge of disintegration by the speech.
