Ramban, Nov 18: The long dry spell in the state has causing a rapid increase in diseases among elders and children in district Ramban , while the situation would prevail until winter downpour changes the weather.
Talking to Early Times Dr Vikar Hussain, Physician in District Hospital (DH) Ramban said that dust in the air is the major cause of various respiratory infections among people and especially in children and old aged people.
"There is an increase of 30 percent OPD of children due to dry weather adding that diseases like dust allergy, chest, throat infections, cough and viral fever are very common these days in children" he said.
Dr. Vikar further said that smog in this region is different from other areas as in the province, it was caused due to ongoing construction projects; however, this district is being badly affected mainly because of dust.
"People especially patients suffering from respiratory problems must wear masks and avoid the use of citric edibles to keep them safe from allergy," the doctor said.
He maintained that hospital has seen surge in the number of patients suffering from seasonal diseases and children have been affected most.
"Dry winter affects people allergic to dust and construction activities also contribute in health issues when there is no rain," said the doctor. He further said that plenty of nutrition can help take care of both your health and your skin.
Vitamins like vitamin C help boost immunity. Vitamin C can also help prevent common cold and flu. He advised to take Vaxigrip vaccine well in advance to protect them.
Because the winter season has started after long dry spell of ending summer now days are cool so there are increasing complaints of being sick because of cold," said the doctor.
As per health experts a large number of people especially inhabiting alongside roads and markets of the towns are facing dust allergy problems.
According to health officials the need of cleanliness is increased in such kind of situations to evade infections.
Children must wear warm clothes when the temperature falls because they are reluctant to cover themselves after passing a warm day.
Vikram Singh a local said that he brought his two children in DH Ramban for check up, as their fever increased after chest infection.
Doctors are advising parents to give masks to the children, regulate their diet and ensure cleanliness to prevent these seasonal diseases.
A large number of people with their children were seen in OPDs of different hospitals with complaints of cough, soar-throat, pneumonia and diarrhea.
The continued long dry spell has increased the seasonal ailments of the residents of the state but, according to officials of government hospitals, OPDs are working properly to manage the increased rush of patients in common and pediatric OPDs.
