Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 18: The order issued by the Department of Education with regard to mass promotion of students in Kashmir has turned out to be 'ambiguous' as it does not mention anything about the students receiving education in the lower primary classes. The order said that the government has waived off the Term-2 examination for the students of classes 8th, 9th and 11th for all government schools and the recognized private schools of Kashmir valley for the current academic session. It also said that the government has also ordered continuation of "No-Detention" policy from classes 5th to 8th for the current academic session. The order has been welcomed by the people as a whole, but at the same time the common masses are perplexed over the fact that there is no mention of students studying from Nursery to fourth standard. As such there is confusion whether examination have to be held for students of these classes or not. "The order should have been issued much earlier, but still then it is better to be late than never. But at the same time what has the government decided about the children of lower classes. There is no mention of such students in the government order and the people more so the students as well as their parents are perturbed," said Asif Nabi, parent. People as a whole demand that the government more so the education department should clear the air in this regard. They said that once this is done then the students as well as their parents would be relieved of all the tension and they can look forward towards a better as well as bright future. "Most of the private schools have already received the fees for the period during which schools remained closed in the valley. At the same time these educational institutions have also received 50 percent of their bus fee. These schools have already announced mass promotion of their students. The government should supplement the same by issuing the mass promotion order for students studying in classes right from Nursery to fourth standard," said Aamir Iqbal, a teacher. According to the order issued by School Education Department, all the students from class 5th to 9th and class 11th from all the government schools and the recognized private schools of Kashmir valley shall be elevated to the next level with immediate effect. "As a consequence the new academic calendar for the schools shall commence in the Kashmir valley forthwith," the order states adding that the Government Order No: 338-Edu of 2016 Dated: 16-09-2016, wherein, the "No-Detention" policy was reviewed shall now take effect from the calendar year 2017. According to the order, the decision was taken in view of the fact that the students of a large number of educational institutions in the Kashmir valley could not attend their classes after the summer vacation of 2016 because of the unrest. As per the order, the educational institutions in the valley have been asked to hold additional remedial classes during the winter to compensate the loss suffered by students because of the prolonged unrest. |
