PS Bali Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 18: A former Member Parliament has allegedly grabbed land in a posh area of Srinagar. The ex-MP has "illegally occupied several acres of land in the summer capital, which otherwise belonged to a poor farmer." The farmer alleged that he had approached every authority for justice, but to no avail. "Revenue Department, the district administration, and the minister concerned-all disappointed me," the farmer said. "I am a poor farmer and the land which I had been tilling for many decades is now occupied by a powerful politician. Nobody is ready to intervene. I have all relevant documents to prove that the land belongs to me," he said. The farmer said he had approached the court for justice. "The court gave order in my favour. But the order was never executed by the officials concerned," he claimed. He also alleged that touts of the ex-MP had threatened him when he tried to raise the issue further. Sources said the farmer was offered peanuts for the property which is worth several crores. The farmer said the law enforcement agencies are playing in the hands of powerful politicians like the former MP. "The police are supposed to play a role in cases of land encroachment, but they are witnessing the entire episode as mute spectators, which is disappointing," said sources. "The victim has also approached concerned politician with a request to release his property or pay him as per the government rates, but the MP is obstinate and is not even paying him half the cost of land," sources added. |
