Kargil freezes at minus 9.2 degree, Kashmir reels under sub-zero temp | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 18: The Kashmir valley continued to reel under cold wave conditions as temperature remained below freezing point while border town of Kargil recorded the coldest night of the season after mercury dipped and settled at minus 9.2 degree. Meanwhile, due to dry weather during the next 48 hours, Kashmir and Ladakh will continue to reel under chilly conditions though sun was playing hide and seek with icy cold winds. A Met Department spokesperson here today said weather will remain dry though sky would be cloudy in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 48 hours which could resulting in further dip in the temperature. However, light rain and snow could occur at isolated places in the valley from November 20 till November 23. Majority of the water bodies were frozen in Kargil, which witnessed a considerable dip in the night temperature after mercury dropped and settled at minus 9.2 degree. This is the coldest night temperature of the season so far. Meanwhile, people in Leh in Ladakh region also had to face extreme weather conditions as mercury dipped at settled at minus 8.4 degree, against minus 7.8 degree recorded yesterday. World famous health resort of Pahalgam also witnessed a dip in the night temperature as mercury plunged and settled at minus 4.2 degree, against minus 4 degree recorded yesterday. Even though there was a marginal improvement in the night temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, it was still below freezing point. Against minus 2.7 degree recorded yesterday, the temperature was minus 2.5 degree. |
