HC imposes Rs 5,000 costs on Edu Commissioner for not filing objections | PIL seeking implementation of Dogri language as subject in schools | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 18: In a PIL seeking implementation of Dogri language as a subject in schools, a high court division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan has imposed Rs 5,000 costs on the education commissioner for not filing objections. The petitioner has sought a direction to the state for implementing the government order no 222 EDU of 2006 in letter and spirit to ensure the protection of linguistic interests of minorities throughout J&K at the earliest and introduction of Dogri subject in all private as well as govrrnment schools as the curriculum was already prepared by the BOSE chairman. The petitioner has also sought a direction to Union Home Ministry to order the department of census to rectify its linguistic survey of 2001 with regard to mother tongues being spoken in J&K as available on its website, and place Kishtwari, Siraji under the parent family of Dogri and also Bhaderwahi from the parent famiy of Hindi to its original parent family of Dogri. The bench observed that inspite of granting time to file objections within four weeks as a last chance by an order on October 7, 2016, the objections had not been filed till date. The court, on the request of AAG, granted one week time for filling objections on the condition to depost a sum of Rs 5,000 in Advocates Welfare Fund by the education commissioner. The petitioner submitted that inspite of the initiative taken by the state government, all the efforts had gone in vain as no proper compliance or implementation of the government order no 222 Edu of 2006 was made in letter and spirit.
