Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 18: SKUAST-Jammu organized training programme on soil health testing today at village Patiari Katna of Samba district under the guidance of Dr. J. P. Sharma, Director Research of SKUAST-Jammu. The programme was coordinated by Dr P. K. Rai along with a team of scientists of SKUAST-Jammu, officers from NMAET and NABARD, Jammu and Department of Agriculture, Govt. of J&K. Dr. P. K. Rai, Sr. Scientist, ACHR, welcomed the dignitaries and mentioned the importance of soil health testing for boosting productivity. He mentioned SKUAST-Jammu has embarked on a series of programmes to create awareness on soil testing and soil health card among farmers for sustainable agriculture. Dr. A. P. Rai, Jr. Scientist, Soil Science and Agri Chemistry explained the farmers about the detail procedure of soil sampling and resources for testing samples. Surinder Kumar, DDM, NABARD gave details of government schemes that could benefit the farmers and ensured full cooperation with university in implementing the beneficial schemes for farmers. Ashok Gupta, Deputy Director, NMAET, and Ajeet Singh, AEO, also spoke on the occasion about schemes available with their respective departments for benefits of farmers. The participants showed great enthusiasm and keen interest on soil health card and procedure of soil testing during the interactive discussion. Vinod Kumar, Ramesh Chand and Amit kumar from the village had healthy and fruitful interaction with the scientists. Jag Ram, Sarpanch of the Village appreciated the efforts of university team for reaching the village.
