JK in deep financial crisis as PC withholds plan funds
8/15/2014 12:09:38 AM
Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Aug 14: With each passing day, the problems for Omar Abdullah Government are getting compounded. Thanks to an inordinate delay in the approval of the annual plan by the Planning Commission of India for the current financial year, development works in the state have come to a grinding halt. Sources in the Planning and Finance Departments told Early Times on Wednesday that due to withholding of plan funds by the Centre, the financial crises is deepening to an alarming extent. The situation is so bad that soon, there may be no money to provide fuel for Government vehicles, what to speak of spending on developmental works. A senior bureaucrat told Early Times that in normal course, the Planning Department would release the second installment in the second quarter of the year. He said that the situation is moving from bad to worse. The bureaucrat said that ahead of Eid this year, the Government raised a loan of Rs. 300 crore from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. It was only then that the Government was able to release the salary bills of its employees. Th...

Hindus, Buddhists, Christians anti-India, says Mirwaiz
Seminar of secessionists
8/14/2014 11:52:42 PM
Neha JAMMU, Aug 14: Hindus, Buddhists and Christians are anti-India. This precisely was the meaning of what self-styled chairman of APHC-M Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said on Monday in Srinagar. "We (Mirwaiz and fanatics like him) will give them (divisive forces) a befitting reply that people of all three regions, be it Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and Muslims are all part of the Kashmir's genuine freedom struggle". The mad man made this statement while addressing a seminar of secessionists in Srinagar on August 11 the theme of which was "Khonay Shaheeda Ranglayega" (Martyrs' sacrifices will bear fruit) and it was organized to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of slain Hurriyat (M) activi...

NC, Cong don't know what they say
IIT is for all
8/14/2014 11:52:28 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Aug 14: Working president of National Conference (NC) and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz, it seems, do not know what they say or they make statements without realizing that their views are offending even those who belong to their own faith. This became more than clear when they in one voice condemned the Union Government for its decision to set up an Indian Institute of technology in Jammu - institute which will not be the sole preserve of the Jammu youth but of the country, including Kashmir and Ladakh. Both the Kashmir-based leaders forgot that their parties were in power in the state and that they had consistently claimed that they talk...

8/14/2014 11:29:49 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 14: By appointing Dr Nirmal Singh as chairman of the Election Campaign Committee, the BJP high command has given a clear signal to Choudhary Lal Singh that party is not going to accept his terms and conditions for joining BJP. Choudhary Lal Singh, who has resigned from Congress after castigating both Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saif-ud-Din Soz last month, has announced to join BJP. He would most probably join BJP on August 25 when national president of the party Amit Shah is visiting Jammu to formally kick start party's campaign for Assembly elections. Credible sources in the BJP said that before resigning from Congress, Choudhary Lal Singh was putting some terms ...

As NC president refuses to come out of 'shock', party morale hits all time low
Further delay in distribution of mandates
8/14/2014 11:29:31 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Aug 14: National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah is yet to come out of the shock which he received in the form of defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary seat. Dr. Abdullah is taking no interest whatsoever in the party affairs and it is his son Omar Abdullah who is calling the shots. The NC President has kept himself aloof from the distribution of mandates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. This too has provided a platform for the critics to dissect the performance of National Conference in the recent past. Sources told Early Times that the basic reason for disillusionment of Dr. Abdullah is that the...

8/14/2014 11:29:15 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Aug 14: While State Accountability Commission (SAC) will go defunct on August 18, more than a month has passed with NC-Congress coalition Government struggling to make headless State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) functional. Non-seriousness of the State Government reflects from the fact that even the Adhoc which was being headed by a National Conference (NC) card holder Rafiq Fida no longer exists yet the two coalition partners are busy in theatrics, caring a little about an important institution having gone to dogs. Meetings are being planned by the Law department for appointing members to the commission but the two coalition partners are shying away to come ac...
