NC issues list of 32 candidates, Congress reacts cautiously | | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, July 15 : As the ruling national conference today announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, JKPCC vice President while refusing to comment on the issue says that National conference (NC) has its own way of working and nobody can stop them from issuing a candidate list. Within minutes after NC issued the first list of 32 candidates, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh congress committee vice President, Ghulam Nabi Monga while talking to Early Times said that "every political party has their own way of running party affairs and so has NC. They (NC) should actually answer whether they want coalition with us or not because they announced the list, ask them please, we cannot comment on it, no further comments please." Pertinently as NC issued its first list of candidates and it appeared that there will be no NC-Congress pre-poll alliance. However, it seems that the optionof alliance has beewn kept open. The NC has not nominated candidates in areas where Congress fields candidates. No candidate has been nominated for Uri, Dooru and Kokernag in South Kashmir where from Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Peerzada Muhammad Syed of Congress contest elections while as Noorabad has been given to Sakina Itoo where there is no strong Congress candidate, Shopian main and Pulwama have been kept pending where Congress is likely to filed new faces this time and in Jammu Province Kishtwar was given to Sajad Ahamd Kitchloo and no candidate has been nominated from other assembly segments of the region controlled by state Congress usually. In Ladakh division where pre-poll alliance for parliamentary elections could not work between the two, instead Congress fielded their own candidate against alliance candidate name of only candidate has been mentioned in the list issued today and all the seats from Kargil and Leh have been kept still open for pre-poll alliance. Pertinently sources within state congress informed Early Times that Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah who recently met congress President Sonia Gandhi and other members of high command must have realized that from response of high command that there will be no pre-poll alliance, besides Abdullah's are well aware of the opposition to pre-poll alliance from state congress leadership following the rout in parliamentary elections. Earlier according to sources after around three hours of deliberation Parliamentary affairs committee of NC under the Chairmanship of Working President, Omar Abdullah on the approval of the party patron President Dr Farooq Abdullah cleared a list of 32 candidates to contest upcoming assembly elections which include 19 Candidates for Kashmir division, 12 Candidates for Jammu region and 1 Candidate for Ladakh region. |
