NGOs, Consultants violate MHRD guidelines on PMSSS admissions
7/16/2014 12:27:52 AM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 15: The NGO's and educational consultancies in various parts of the state especially in Srinagar have again started duping the poor students of the state by promising them admissions under PM's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) in various professional and technical institutions across India. The NGO's and Consultancies are giving admission letters to dozens of students every day here which violates the new guidelines of Ministry of HRD (MHRD) wherein only two students could be admitted per college.
As per reliable sources NGO's and consultancies are charging Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 from each student and promise them of admission in engineering and other technical courses. "I fail to understand how can these NGO's and consultancies charge money from students as they have no role to play in this scheme because the MHRD has assigned the job to AICTE and J&K Higher Education department has been asked to assist the AICTE in these admissions," said Dr Syed Shafi a college professor from Srinagar while talking to Early Times.
Pertinent to mention that the decision of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to admit only two students per college during the current academic session under the PM's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) is being criticized by the scholarship aspirants and their parents as they feel that students would be send to colleges located in far flung areas of various states. As per the decision of the AICTE which is the nodal agency for implementing this scheme in J&K, it has been decided that only two students would be allowed to take admission in each college, as the number of annual scholarships fixed by Ministry of HRD is 5000, it means that AICTE would have to search for 2500 colleges across India to admit the students from J&K.
The aspirants and their parents have now approached Minister HRD Simriti Irani requesting for an appointment with her so that this matter is addressed. The memorandum send to Ministry of HRD by a group of students from Valley reads as: "unhealthy development attributed to your Ministry about recasting of guidelines under Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme for J&K students circulated in 3rd week of June 2014. At the outset we can safely submit that it has not the approval of the Minister HRD or the Prime Minister whom the scheme is attributed as both of them would not be so callous about student community."
The stake holders have demanded that Higher Education Department must intervene into this matter and ensure that the so called NGO's and educational consultancies are taught a lesson.
