Migrants rue the day they agreed to work in Valley | Living in protected enclaves | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 15: The home coming for some of the Pandit families has not been comfortable. During Manmohan Singh's regime, the Pandits were appointed in Government service with the condition that they will serve in the Valley and thus pave way for return of the migrants. The Pandit families, however, expressed their displeasure last year when a Parliamentary delegation visited the Valley. "We want to go back. We do not want to live in isolation in these compartments where six to seven families have been herded like cattle," they made clear. They rue the day they agreed to work in the Valley. The aggrieved families have sought judicial intervention. A petition has been preferred in the High Court. The court has directed the Government to provide quarters to each petitioner within a month. However, the order has been observed in breach. The order was passed on April 2 but to this day, the accommodation has not been provided. The Pandits see no sincerity in the move. According to them, they have been treated as experimental animals by successive Governments. As per the Prime Minister's package, 3,000 specially created vacancies were created. Half of them were given to the migrants who agreed to work in the Valley without seeking transfer to Jammu and other places. Tenements were raised in various districts. The Government intends to create more tenements to accommodate the migrants who are willing to return. But is it, really needed? |
