Youth arrested for pro-Lashkar slogans in Sopore

BARAMULLA, July 15: A youth, who had been earlier charged for militant activities, was arrested in the Sopore town of district Baramulla in north Kashmir for allegedly raising pro Lashkar-e-Toiba slogans during the anti-Israel protest in the town today.
According to sources that "scores of youth soon after noon prayers took to streets and amid anti-Israel slogans pelted stones on police vehicles".
Amid anti-Israel protests erupted in all three districts of north Kashmir where scores of youth today clashed with police in Palhallan area of tehsil Pattan that resulted in the shutdown of the market.
'Stone- pelters tried to target civilian vehicles, however, police resorted to teargas shelling to disperse them. The provoked youth appeared on Srinagar-Baramulla road and tried to block it, sources said'.
Eyewitness said that as a result of intense clashes between the youth and police, shopkeepers downed their shutters for the whole day.
A group of youth used public address system and played Kashmiri patriotic numbers, after which many protesters received injuries during clashes, which continued for hours till late evening.
A top police official wishing not to be named said that, some miscreants attacked police while police exercised maximum restraint and fired only few shells to restore the order in the area.
Clashes also erupted in Apple Town Sopore where protestors targeted State Bank of India that houses CRPF personnel from 179 Battalion.
In Sopore the youth during anti-Israel demonstrations resorted to indiscriminate stone-pelting on CRPF personnel. Government forces bursted tear-smoke shells to disperse the protestors. A police official said that situation was brought under control after the clashes.
Meanwhile, police also detained a youth who had been earlier held for militant activities. Shakir Ahmad, a second year student was held for raising pro LeT slogans during a students' rally which he was leading on Monday.
In Baramulla Town, locals, students and various social organizations staged separate protest demonstrations. Students of Boys' Degree College Baramulla also held protest demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinian Muslims.
In Tangmarg area, where hundreds of students of Government Degree College Tangmarg today took to the streets and staged anti-Israel protests.
In another demonstration, hundreds of students from various educational institutions in Kupwara district gathered at Deputy Commissioner's Office and shouted anti-Israel slogans and demanded an end to 'innocent killings'.
Similar reports were received from Bandipora district where Israeli flags were torched by youth here on Saturday as they staged protest against what they called 'massacre' of Palestinian Muslims in Gaza by Jewish forces.
Meanwhile, the protests were peaceful in Kupwara and Bandipora districts of North Kashmir where the markets and other businesses functioned normally.
