Mirwaiz is not moderate | Flawed approach | | Neha JAMMU, July 15: Is the self-styled chairman of the Srinagar-based All-Party Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz), an amalgam of nearly two dozen separatist outfits, moderate, as certain elements have been giving the people to understand? The answer is a big no. He is as fanatic and hardcore supporter of Pakistan as Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The only difference between the two is that while Geelani would want the merger of J&K with Pakistan at once, Mirwaiz wants to achieve the same goal by stages. Both hates India from the core of their heart and both denounce the Indian politico-constitutional framework. Both talk about the UN resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir and both vouch for right to self-determination, notwithstanding the fact that they know that they talk only rubbish. They know Pakistan has violated the UN resolutions, but they would not refer to it. Both favour demilitarization of the state and both want New Delhi to revoke AFSPA. Both speak about this part of Jammu and Kashmir and they hardly refer to the brutalities Pakistan has been perpetrating on the Sunni-dominated PoJK and Shiite Muslim-dominated Gilgit-Baltistan. Besides, both are sectarian and both want to impose their intolerant, regressive and medieval ideology on the people of Jammu and Ladakh, who are ardent believers in the concept of national unity and the country's sovereignty and who have proved their commitment to India again, again and again. Significantly, Geelani and Mirwaiz, like other Kashmiri separatists, have no say in these two provinces. Leave aside a few disgruntled elements here and there. Indeed, the list of similarities between the two is very long. Those who say that Mirwaiz is moderate are only fooling themselves and the people or they are doing it with a purpose to hoodwink and mislead New Delhi to extract as many political concessions as possible. It is too well-known a fact that Mirwaiz is for the adoption of the former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf's "solution" as a first step towards the final goal. Musharraf's formula envisages demilitarization, self-governance, India-Pakistan joint management and porous Line of Control (read ceasefire line). It is also too well known that he stands for what he calls United States of Jammu and Kashmir, an old idea floated by anti-India forces. Mirwaiz is a protagonist of the United States of Jammu and Kashmir, where different regions would have their "respective autonomy and Governments" and would be under "one federal Government in the state". This federal Government would be outside the Indian constitutional framework. His federal Government formulation is a devious plan. This federal Government, like the Government in Pakistan, would eliminate all the minorities, including Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Shia and so on, in due course of time and eventually create a situation that would facilitate the merger of Jammu and Kashmir with cruel, theocratic, dictatorial and feudalistic Pakistan, which cannot be described as a proper state. Actually, there are Pakistan-watchers who describe Pakistan as a non-state that is being controlled by mafia and fanatics. |
