Heavy rush of students for admission at SKUAST-J | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 15: Heavy rush of students seeking admission to undergraduate courses in Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and Biotechnology at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu(SKUAST-J) as this year around 1700 students appeared in SKUAST-J CET-2014. Agriculture and allied sciences has become the second choice of students seeking admission within the state, after medical sciences. The result of the test has already been declared and is available on the university website: www.skuast.org. Admissions shall be made, for 17 open merit, 17 reserved category and 12 self financing seats, both inB.V.Sc. & AH., and B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture. The biotechnology programme is completely run under self-financing mode for which 25 seats are to be filled. The seats under NRI and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) quotas have already been filled. Since 2013, SKUAST-J started conducting Combined Entrance Test (CET) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Prior to 2013, the students seeking admission at SKUAST-J appeared in combined CET conducted by Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) for various courses in the state, and few students use to prefer and were admitted in B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, and seats used to remain vacant. But since the University started conducting its own CET, the rush of the students seeking admission has increased and no seats remained vacant in undergraduate courses in 2013 and there were long waiting lists after the first counseling. |
