Bhardwaj calls on DDC Jammu, demands irrigation water for farmers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 15: A delegation of farmers and agriculturists from Bishnah constituency led by Senior Advocate and prominent social figure MK Bhardwaj today called on Deputy Commissioner Jammu and apprised of their problems. They impressed upon the Deputy Commissioner for immediate demand of farmers and agriculturist for providing water for the ongoing rabbi season. He apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the hardships being faced by farmers. Bhardwaj further added that due to weak monsoon and shortfall of rains the entire Bishnah constituency is deprived of water for irrigation which would eventually lead to decrease in production for the farmers and agriculturist. Bhardwaj expressed upon Deputy Commissioner that the Canal and distributaries providing water to the fields should be cleaned and the authorities should immediately undertake an exercise to remove silt and weeds from the canals and distributaries. He also impressed upon the Deputy Commissioner that the water should be distributed to all villages without any discrimination as per the sanctioned quantity and standard yardsticks already fixed in this regard by the Irrigation & Flood Control and Revenue Departments and there should be fair and just distribution of water to all farmers and agriculturist of Bishnah Constituency. Deputy Commissioner Ajit Sahu issued instructions for immediate cleaning of canals and has assured that adequate water shall be provided to farmers and agriculturist of all parts of Bishnah Constituency. |
