Jammu / Kishtwar, Aug 17: The festival of Janamashtami-birth of Lord Krishna-was today celebrated with fervour and gaiety in this winter capital of the state.
The 'City of Temples', today donned a festive look as people celebrated Krishna Janmashtami with pomp and ceremony amid tight security arrangements.
Thousands of devotees visited Shri Raghunath Temple and also famous Lord Krishna Temple situated at Rani Park area and offered prayers.
Jammu celebrated Janamashtami with peace and communal harmony.
Enthusiastic people carrying flowers, idols of Lord Krishna visited the holy places and offered prayers amid chants of 'Hare Krishna Hare Rama, Hare Rama Hare Hare.'
Meanwhile, children attired as Lord Krishna, took part in cultural events, 'jhankis' were taken out at various places and womenfolk sang 'bhakti songs' and participated equally in the celebrations.
A mesmerizing Shobha Yatra was also taken out from famous Shri Raghunath Temple yesterday as main procession originated in which thousands of devotees participated.
However, tight security arrangement was made for smooth celebrations across the city.
Special arrangements have also been made in various temples of Lord Krishna for night prayers.
Kite Flying also marks as a tradition of Janamashtami celebrations in Jammu.
A huge rush of the pilgrimages was witnessed since very early in the morning in the temples in Samba district Samba .
One of them is a renowned ancient temple at ghagwal town had stampede of the pilgrimages since wee hours of this morning
The local told that it is a very old and ancient temple in the Ghagwal block of the samba District which is known for its two days Mala and a colorful local Bazaar in its surroundings. People in the shape of a crowd are visiting the lord Narsingh temple with a holy faith in their minds.
Janmashtami the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna was celebrated in Kishtwar district of Jammu province under tight security cover with religious fervor.
Thousands of people from different walks of life in large number assembled at Ghori Shankar Mandir Sarkoot where the main Pujja and Havan was held for seeking the blessing of lord Krishna. The Pujja was followed by shoba yatra in which various Jankies presented different life characteristics of lord Krishna were put for display.
The Shoba yatra in the form of rally left Ghori Shanker Mandir Sarkoot in the afternoon and started its march towards Rangunath Mandir Semna colony, raising patriotic and religious slogans. The Shoba yatra after passing through, Chowghan ground, Dak Banglow Chowk, Shaheedi road, Hospital road, bus stand and Bhagwan Mohallah cumulates at Ragunath mandir. Over 6000 to 8000 people with large number of decorated Jankis participated in today's religious procession.
Keeping in view of recent tension in the town in wake of aftermath of last year August 9 communal violence, Police and District administration has made an elaborated security arrangement to thwart any untoward incident. All the entry and exit points leading to Kishtwar town, beside the Shoba yatra track were sealed.
As per the reports available with "Early Times" a strong contingent of over 1000 security personals including police, IRP, CRPF and man in civic were deployed on 3 KM long track right from Ghori Shanker Mandir Sarkoot up to Rangunath mandir Semna colony. Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan along with DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban range Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, SSP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal and other senior officials of District administration and police personally supervise the security arrangements and escorted the shoba yatra till it cumulates. The entry and movement of vehicles in the town was also prohibited by the administration. Similar reports of celebration of Janmashtami were also received from place like Chingham, Chatroo, Sangpora and Padder where people in large number celebrated the Janmashtami festival with religious flavor. No report of any untoward incident was received from any part of the District.
