BGSBU's tryst with tricolor after 11 years surprising | | | Rajouri, Aug 17:In a significant development, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University celebrated the 68th Independence Day after 11 years following pressure from different corners within the university premises. The National Flag was unfurled by Mohd Rashid Chowdhry, Registrar in the absence of Vice-Chancellor Prof I A Hamal. While speaking on the occasion Registrar termed BGSBU as example of most secular University in India. The celebration of the historic day comes after some students from College of Engineering and Tecnology (COE&T) sought permission to celebrate Independence Day and Republic day which had never been celebrated in the university since inception about 11 years back. Students approached the Deputy Commissioner; Jatinder Singh who in consultation with higher authorities directed BGSBU authorities through SSP Rajouri to unfurl the National Flag as students can't hoist Flag as head of the institution is authorized to unfurl National Flag. "BGSBU has been established on the revered name of Sufi saint Hazrat Baba Ghulam Ali Shah Badshah and has become one of the most secular University of the country where people from all faiths are living together peacefully setting an example for communal harmony", said Registrar. He added that in a short span of time, this University is competing with half centuries old Universities which is a matter of pride for students, faculty, other staff of the University and residents of Rajouri Poonch. |
