NC members also undermine importance of Coordination Committee | Cong looks helpless as NC not ready to convene Cabinet meeting | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aur 17: Congress leadership in Jammu and Kashmir is looking helpless after its coalition partner National Conference is not giving importance to the demand of convening meeting of the Coordination Committee (CC) and State Cabinet. The last cabinet meeting was held on July 24 which was boycotted by some Congress ministers on the issue of refugees. From the first week of August Congress ministers have been demanding that meeting of the Cabinet should be convened so that decision on some important issues should be taken. But, the NC leadership on the other hand is not convening the meeting and taking decisions unanimously. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is head of the Cabinet has to take decision on convening Cabinet meeting but he seems to be not interested in convening Cabinet meeting. Instead of allowing discussions on important issues, the Chief Minister and National Conference leadership itself is taking unanimous decisions such issues. Announcement of reservation for Pahari speaking people is an important decision but Congress leadership was not taken into confidence. Credible sources said that it was decided by the leadership of both the parties that reservation should be given to the Paharis but announcement in this regard would be made after formal discussion in the Cabinet but announcement was unanimously made by Chief Minister on August 15. Credible sources said that State unit of Congress was not happy over the way Chief Minister is adopting delay tactics in convening Cabinet meeting. State unit has brought this matter to the notice of the high command but a group in the Central leadership has soft corner for NC. This group has asked state unit to avoid any confrontation with NC before the Assembly elections. On the one hand Chief Minister is not convening Cabinet meeting while on the other hand NC members have refused to participate in the Coordination Committee meeting. The last Coordination Committee meeting was called by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Saif Ud Din Soz, as chairman of the Committee on August 10, but NC members refused to attend the meeting. ==== |
